David Chipperfield Architects has won the prestigious competition to design the new Nobel Peace Center in Blasieholmsudden peninsula. The proposal -called Nobelhuset- firm finalists defeated the Swedes Johan Wingårdhs Arkitektkontor and Celsing Arkitektkontor; three were selected from a list of 12 high-level applicants (including BIG, OMA, and SANAA) in November last year.

The jury unanimously chose the design of Chipperfield for the new headquarters, which will include exhibition spaces, meeting rooms, a library, a restaurant, a shop and a large auditorium where the annual awards ceremony of the Nobel Prize will take place. Jury President and CEO Lars Heikensten the Nobel Foundation said: “The jury found the lightness and sincerity of the work attractive and consistent with the explicit ambition of the Nobel Foundation to create an open and welcoming center for the general public “.
